La Familia MySpace If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me about a certain dog tag around my neck, I'd buy the next round of SoCo and Lime at On The Rocks. It is what it means, "family", and we are a family. Some of us are musicians, some writers, business people, actors, and even a few that still really aren't sure what they're here for. We got thrown together over this last year by a series of circumstances, a few of us by our obvious association with the Mafia, some by sheer coincidence, but all I would say, by the grace of God. So what does La Familia mean? How can a shiny dog tag seem to mean so much, and why are we so adimate about what we believe in? La Familia is moments that will never be forgotten, between friends, lovers, and family...because no matter what lovers have hurt us, what family forgets us, or what friend makes us want to bitch slap them...there is one constant, and that is each other. We fight like brothers and sisters, poking each other in the ribs, or holding a hand in front of our face when we're drunk saying, "I'm not touching you!" But La Familia is so much more than a bunch of friends who drink far too many Jagerbombs, and stress the presence of beer goggles to those we love most after "one of those nights." La Familia is a friend who loves you so much he'll go tell the guy you're dating that he's done, because he witnesses him disrespecting you. It's a group of guys, who hate hospitals, and hate emotions, and hate seeing you 10 pounds lighter than you should be, in screaming pain, lying in a bed for 6 days...but come to see you anyway, and make balloons out of surgical gloves. It's guys that admit when they're wrong, and accept your apology when you screw up. It's people who will sit you down and tell you you're being stupid, when, well, you're being stupid. It's loving each other, despite our differences, and overcoming our weaknesses. It's movie night, pictionary, and road trips. It's Superman birthday parties and Charlies Angel's in the pool. It's a family, because there isn't one of us that doesn't need or deserve one, or face the dillemma of our real families being in another world when the shit hits the fan. It's cuddling, and hugging, when one of us knows that's all we really need to feel better. Most of all, La Familia is a group of people with a committment to each other, that runs deeper than any record deal, publishing deal, movie role, or fancy desk job at a record label. It's bigger than any rock star that walks through the door, and more powerful than than any 3 piece suit with a pen and a contract. We are not trying to be anything more than we are, anything more than we've become naturally. We don't ask for anyone to even know or understand, because we're content in who we are. The people you need to know, the people you need to worry about, and watch for, are the individuals that make up this family. You can bet your happy ass that you're gonna hear these names, see these faces on TV, play these songs on the radio, and a few years from now, fully understand that the dog tags around our neck are about our loyalty to each other. Not our need to prove ourselves to anyone else. Our talents will speak for us, sit back and watch the rest. Love it or leave it...that's what the dog tag around my neck means ~SWJ |
